We’re currently looking for: 2nd or 3rd year Apprentice Technicians

2nd-Year Apprentice Mechanic – Job Description

Overview:
A 2nd-year apprentice mechanic builds on basic mechanical knowledge and begins performing more hands-on repairs with moderate supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections)
  • Assist with diagnosing basic mechanical issues
  • Replace simple components (filters, belts, batteries, bulbs)
  • Support senior technicians with more complex repairs
  • Use diagnostic tools under supervision
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Follow shop procedures and safety standards
  • Document work performed and parts used

Skills & Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of automotive systems (engine, brakes, suspension)
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Enrolled in an automotive apprenticeship program
  • Valid driver’s license (often required)

Level of Supervision:
Moderate to close supervision; still learning core skills.

3rd-Year Apprentice Mechanic – Job Description

Overview:
A 3rd-year apprentice works more independently and handles more complex diagnostics and repairs while refining technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues with less supervision
  • Perform advanced maintenance and repairs (brakes, suspension, cooling systems)
  • Assist with engine diagnostics and minor engine repairs
  • Use scan tools and interpret diagnostic codes
  • Inspect vehicles and identify necessary repairs
  • Communicate findings clearly to supervisors or service advisors
  • Mentor junior apprentices (1st/2nd year)
  • Ensure quality control on completed work

Skills & Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of automotive systems and diagnostics
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems efficiently
  • Comfortable using diagnostic equipment and software
  • Good time management and problem-solving skills
  • Continued enrollment in apprenticeship program
  • Own basic set of tools (often expected by this stage)

Level of Supervision:
Limited supervision; expected to work more independently and show initiative.

Tire Change – Job Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Remove and install tires using tire machines
  • Balance wheels using a balancing machine
  • Inspect tires for wear, damage, and proper inflation
  • Rotate tires according to manufacturer recommendations
  • Repair punctures (patch/plug) when applicable
  • Torque lug nuts to proper specifications
  • Check and adjust tire pressure (including TPMS reset if needed)

 

Oil Change – Job Duties

Responsibilities:

  • Drain engine oil and replace with correct type/quantity
  • Replace oil filters
  • Inspect fluid levels (coolant, brake fluid, transmission, washer fluid)
  • Perform basic vehicle inspections during service
  • Reset maintenance/service lights
  • Check for leaks or other visible issues
  • Properly dispose of used oil and filters
